3. NuVasive posts Q4 earnings beat, slips to red ink for 2014
NuVasive Inc. posted solid jumps in revenue and net income during the 4th quarter, reflecting the spinal surgical tool company’s continued global expansion. But it lost money during the year, due in part to tax issues, and badly missed analysts’ expectations with its 2015 earnings outlook.

2. Patients sue Olympus over superbug infections
Attorneys for 2 patients infected with a drug-resistant bacterial “superbug” during medical procedures in a Los Angeles hospital, 1 of whom died, have sued the maker of the devices used in their care.
Aaron Young, an 18-year-old high school student who remains under monitoring at a hospital fighting the severe infection, and the family of Antonia Cerda sued Olympus, which manufactured the specialized scopes used during the outbreak at the UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center. Read more
1. Cyberonics to buy Italy’s Sorin for $1.4B
Cyberonics agreed to buy Sorin Group in an all-stock deal that the Italian company said values it at about $1.4 billion.
The new group will bring together 2 global leaders in the growing markets of cardiac surgery and neuromodulation, with a combined equity value of $2.7 billion, the companies said in a joint statement today. Read more
