2. Abbott closes 3 clinical trials for disappearing drug-eluting coronary stent
Illinois healthcare titan Abbott closed enrollment in 3 clinical trials after treating about 2,800 patients with the company’s dissolving Absorb drug-eluting scaffold.
The studies included about 2,000 patients in the U.S. and 400 patients each in trials in China and Japan, according to a company statement. Abbott is pursuing regulatory approvals in all 3 regions, which together represent 50% of the world’s heart stent market. Read more
1. Medtech tax: Indiana Senator solicits new Finance chair’s support in anti-tax fight
Senator Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.) is hoping to garner the support of new Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) in efforts to repeal the medical device tax.
In an open letter issued yesterday, Donnelly congratulated Wyden on his new role and voiced concerns that the medtech tax is hurting American innovation. Read more
