4. Integra LifeSciences deals $48m in neurosurgery assets to Natus Medical
Integra LifeSciences said today that it plans to deal some of its neurosurgery assets to Natus Medical for nearly $48 million, contingent on the consummation of its $1 billion buyout of the Codman Neurosurgery business from Johnson & Johnson.
Plainsboro, N.J.-based Integra said the sale to Natus includes its line of Camino intracranial pressure monitoring devices and the San Diego plant that makes them, plus rights and assets for its fixed pressure shunts and the rights to Codman’s Duraform, standard external ventricular drain catheters and cerebrospinal fluid collection devices. The products to be sold put up revenues of about $50 million last year, slightly more than Integra’s $47.5 million asking price. Read more
3. Abbott halts global sales of 1st-gen Absorb stents
Abbott said today it will halt global sales of its 1st-generation Absorb bioresorbable vascular scaffold due to low commercial sales.
In a statement on it’s website, the company said it is discontinuing all sizes of the Absorb bioresorbable vascular scaffold system, effective Sept. 14. Read more
2. Zimmer Biomet launches Persona partial knee replacement
Zimmer Biomet said today that it launched its Persona customized partial knee replacement last month, touting it as the first jointly developed product since the $14 billion merger of Zimmer Holdings and Biomet in 2015.
The Persona partial knee was developed using Zimmer Biomet’s Zibra anatomical modeling system, compiled from scans of thousands of bones, the Warsaw, Ind.-based orthopedics giant said. Persona launched globally August 31, Zimmer Biomet said. Read more
1. Medtronic recalls insulin infusion sets
Medtronic said today that it’s recalling some of the infusion sets used with its insulin pumps due to problems with a discontinued component.
The Fridley, Minn.-based medical device titan said the problem involves a vent membrane that’s susceptible to blockage during priming and fill-tubing. No pumps or glucose sensors are affected by the recall, Medtronic said, and infusion sets made since April 2017 use an updated vent membrane design. Read more
