4. NuVasive taps new CFO
NuVasive said today that it tapped Rajesh Asarpota to be its new CFO effective Sept. 1, replacing Quentin Blackford, who jumped ship last month for the top finance spot at Dexcom Inc.
San Diego-based NuVasive said Asarpota began his career at GE Healthcare before moving to Life Technologies, Questcor Pharmaceuticals and “private equity-backed healthcare companies” for the last several years. Read more
3. Google acquires smartphone health dx startup Senosis Health
Google has acquired Seattle-based digital health startup Senosis Health for an undisclosed amount, according to a report from Geekwire.
Senosis Health was founded by University of Washington computer scientist Shwetak Patel, aiming to use smartphones as patient monitoring devices, collecting health metrics and providing services such as diagnosing pulmonary function, hemoglobin counts and other critical health information, according to the report. 2. Evolent Health raises $167m
Evolent Health said yesterday that it raised nearly $167 million in a secondary offering, saying it could use some of the proceeds on the M&A trail.
The Arlington, Va.-based value-based healthcare company said it sold more than 8.8 million shares at $19.85 apiece, for net proceeds of roughly $166.8 million. Read more
1. Medtronic, Halyard Health’s Corpak to lay off 266 in Illinois
Medtronic and Halyard Health subsidiary Corpak MedSystems are planning to lay off a collective 266 workers in Illinois as they each close a plant there.
Fridley, Minn.-based Medtronic told the Illinois Commerce Dept. that it’s shuttering a distribution facility in Joliet, meaning job cuts for the 185 workers employed there. The layoffs are slated to begin Sept. 13 and end by Dec. 15, according to a WARN Act notice filed July 31. Read more
