Masimo (Nasdaq:MASI) announced today that it added a new sleep analysis feature for its W1 advanced health tracking wearable.

Sleep Halo, a scientifically based sleep analysis function, offers overnight sleep data tracking. It offers more than 70,000 daily measurements of second-by-second continuous health data.

The technology uses Masmio’s continuous pulse oximetry and machine learning to provide sleep insights. Data includes sleep quality, overall timing, duration of sleep stages, rest and wakefulness periods, desaturation and more. It also provides a Sleep Halo score, representing an algorithmic calculation of overall sleep quality.

Users can visualize all their Sleep Halo data on the companion Masimo Health smartphone app. The company also plans to feature the function in all future wearables, including the upcoming Freedom watch and band.

Masimo launched the W1 health watch for consumer use in 2022. The Irvine, California-based company designed its W1 watch to offer accurate, continuous measurements and insightful health data. Its wrist-worn wearable builds on the company’s personal, lifestyle-friendly designs for non-invasive blood parameter monitoring. The company also won FDA clearance for W1 for medical purposes last November.

“Masimo W1 is unique among wearables in being able to continuously measure the wearer’s SpO2 and PR – and that gives us an opportunity to provide a truly informed, robust analysis of how one sleeps. As always, we are committed to providing scientifically backed measurements, which are based on our unmatched, accurate technology, not ‘tarot card logic’ novelties,” said Joe Kiani, Masimo founder and CEO. “We benchmarked Sleep Halo with EEG to confirm its stages of sleep are comparable to sleep analysis. We hope that with this new scientifically based Sleep Halo, our customers can improve their sleep hygiene, which has been shown to improve life.”
