Local medical device firms fared well in Medical Device & Diagnostic Industry magazine’s annual award ceremony.
The awards, now in their 12th year, are sponsored by the magazine and its publisher, Canon Communications, to recognize “achievements of medical device manufacturers, their suppliers, and the many people behind the scenes.” The actual awards will be handed out at Canon’s Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) East conference in June.
Local winners include:
Critical-care and emergency medicine products: Providence design and engineering firm Ximedica LLC and Dielectrics Inc. of Chicopee, for their roles on the team that developed the Thermosuit body-cooling system. The suit cools the core temperature of cardiac arrest, stroke or heart attack victims to 33°C in 20 minutes or less, according to the magazine.
Finished packaging: Devens-based product development firm Bionostics Inc. for its work in designing a component for the UniDose glucose meter.
Implant and tissue-replacement: ConforMIS Inc. of Burlington, for its iUni and iDuo knee implants. Waltham’s Racepoint Group public relations shop submitted the products for consideration.
Surgical equipment, instruments and supplies: Sabic Innovative Plastics of Pittsfield was part of the winning team that developed the Arthrex ClearCut burr rotary instruments.
