California surgical assistance solutions maker Patient Safety Technologies (OTC:PSTX) earlier this year leveled a lawsuit against rival device maker ClearCount Medical Solutions, the company noted in its latest earnings report.
PST accused ClearCount of infringing on patents related to surgical sponge management, alleging that ClearCount’s SmartSponge Flex and SmartSponge System products are in violation.
PST, which sells a Safety-Sponge System through subsidiary SurgiCount Medical, filed the lawsuit on June 12, 2012, in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, according to a regulatory filing. The company is seeking injunctive relief as well as compensatory damages.
