Lantheus Medical Imaging Inc. inked a three-year deal with hospital group purchasing organization Premier Healthcare Alliance for its Definity ultrasound contrast agent and Ablavar magnetic resonance angiography imaging agent.
The contract calls for the diagnostic imaging agent company to help stock Premiere’s more than 76,000 health care sites nationwide.
Definity is used with patients who have-less-than optimal echocardiograms, to improve visibility of the left ventricular chamber. Ablavar is used to evaluate aortoiliac occlusive disease in adults with peripheral vascular disease.
"These products are innovative diagnostic tools that assist clinicians in the diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases and help answer critical clinical questions to make improved patient management decisions," Lantheus president & CEO Don Keipert said in prepared remarks. "We look forward to continuing our long-standing relationship with Premier and providing member physicians with access to these important imaging agents."
Premier has been in a contract-signing frenzy since Medtronic Inc.’s (NYSE:MDT) headline-making, Wall Street-pleasing decision to cut several contracts worth an estimated $2 billion a year for its cardiovascular and orthopedic products with Irving, Texas-based GPO Novation in February.
