RESTORE is a concierge recovery program purpose-built for joint replacement. It integrates continuous biometric monitoring into the post-operative experience. Together, the companies aim to close the gap between a successful surgery and consistently successful outcomes.
Kinomatic said it wants to enhance post-operative recovery in joint replacement. With no connection between patient and care team, the company says surgeons have limited visibility into patient recovery. RESTORE could demonstrate improved outcomes, accelerated healing and reduced reliance on opioids through a high-touch, data-informed recovery model.
The company said its clinically grounded protocol combines continuous biometric monitoring, dedicated patient navigators, evidence-based protocols and AI-powered care coordination.
Whoop’s Unite platform offers surgeons and patient navigators visibility into a number of patient metrics. Those include heart rate variability (HRV), sleep, strain, and recovery data. Kinomatic believes these insights can provide real-time visibility into how a patient actually heals.

According to the company, a key part of the RESTORE approach is opioid sparing. The protocol “virtually eliminated the need for heavy narcotics, rejecting aggressive physical therapy in favor of self-paced home exercises.” This prevents the severe joint inflammation that typically drives opioid demand.
The companies say the approach’s benefits extend beyond the patient, delivering outcomes for practices as well. Large-scale data generated through the partnership can also provide optimized recovery protocols. This could enhance decision-making for surgeons.
Kinomatic and Whoop say that synthesizing large volumes of population-level data will deliver key insights and create faster and more powerful AI-learning loops. They believe this can help speed the adoption of best practices in orthopedics, providing benefits for both surgeons and patients.
The companies expect the pilot to run for 12 weeks, including more than 100 patients receiving either total hip or knee replacement surgery. It takes place across three clinics in California.
Outcomes measured include range of motion in knee flexion (target 115 degrees) and hip flexion (90-100 degrees) at 2 weeks post-op, with 10 or less opioids used by patients, and a net promoter score of over 85, with follow-up lasting one year post-op.
