Artisight’s smart hospital platform powers the AI tool designed to detect and respond to status changes in the operating room (OR). It may help reduce turnover times and eliminate many manual tasks, potentially enhancing OR efficiency and increasing data accuracy.
It marks Karl Storz’s latest OR play, following its August acquisition of Asensus Surgical. Asensus designed its Intelligent Surgical Unit (ISU) as a real-time intraoperative surgical image analytics platform for the Senhance robot. It leverages augmented intelligence to help reduce surgical variability. Asensus has unveiled its next-generation Luna robot under development.
Artisight’s technology uses ambient sensors, microphones and machine learning algorithms to monitor and analyze OR workflow activities in real-time. It features automated operational data capture to streamline processes, prevent delays and optimize resource utilization.
Pathway.AI, a highly customizable and localized offering, allows systems to maximize accuracy and combat model drift and bias. It also respects OR sensitivity with real-time privacy filters.
Dr. Andrew Gostine, Artisight co-founder and CEO, said the partnership “represents a pivotal moment in scaling artificial intelligence in healthcare.”
“Artisight’s expertise in healthcare AI is the perfect complement to KARL STORZ’s proven abilities in transforming the surgical suite,” said Connie Padden, director of OR Technology Integration at Karl Storz U.S.. “Bringing the Pathway.AI automation solution to market will allow us both to provide new value to clinicians in the mission-critical OR environment.”
