announced that it launched the Arbrea Breast Simulator Surgeon App for Mentor in the U.S.
The digital consultation tool, available on tablets and smartphones, helps plastic surgeons personalize planning for patients. It enables the vizualization of potential outcomes during breast augmentation consultations.
According to Johnson & Johnson, most plastic surgeons still use physical sizers and before-and-after galleries to guide conversations about outcomes when it comes to breast procedures. J&J’s Arbrea Breast Simulator Surgeon App for Mentor helps to deliver a personalized 3D simulation in about 60 seconds.
The company says the process enhances clinical discussions in real time and helps patients visualize how different options could look.
Johnson & Johnson said a recent study underscored the need for solutions that better help patients visualize outcomes during consultations. Published in Aesthetic Surgery Journal Open Forum, the study found that, while 68.4% of women surveyed considered the procedure, only 17.5% underwent the procedure. Just 7.2% of those consulted proceeded to surgery.
Two separate studies showed the positive impact of the Abrea app on the consultation experience, the company said. In one study, patients rated the app 3.4 out of 4 for how closely it matched their final surgical result. In another, clinics reported conversion rates that reached as high as 87% for consultations using the app.
