Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ) intends to eliminate hundreds of positions in New Jersey, according to the state’s WARN notice archive.
The New Jersey-based company filed with the state to confirm its plan to lay off 231 employees in New Brunswick, where its headquarters are located. It posted the WARN notice in September and listed the effective date as Dec. 27, 2024. No further details are available regarding the layoffs or what positions they might affect within the medtech giant.
A company spokesperson shared the following statement with MassDevice via email in response to the headcount reduction:
“Johnson & Johnson is tackling the world’s toughest health challenges through science and technology-driven innovation. Guided by our credo, we will support employees who are affected by these changes, helping them explore new options within the company and providing access to career services and related support.”

The company announced restructuring and layoffs to employees around early March 2023 that could eliminate at least 1,000 jobs, according to people inside and outside of the company. The reorganization included folding the company’s Mitek Sports Medicine business into another business. People familiar with the company said the cuts were likely be felt companywide.
In October 2023 the company’s DePuy Spine issued a WARN letter confirming 67 layoffs at a facility in Monument, Colorado. DePuy’s letter said the action comes as a result of a business decision. The company elected to permanently discontinue manufacturing, quality and distribution activities at the location.
