J&J launches Veritas Vision System for cataract surgery

July 23, 2021 By Danielle Kirsh

Johnson & Johnson VisionJ&J Vision today announced that it has launched its Veritas Vision System for cataract surgery.

J&J designed the phacoemulsification system to address patient safety, surgeon efficiency and comfort. Phacoemulsification is the gold standard treatment during cataract surgery and allows surgeons to effectively emulsify and efficiently remove the eye’s internal lens, according to the company.

“In my experience, the advancements in fluidics management and usability of the Veritas Vision System have made a marked improvement in safety and stability of the phaco procedure,” Jason Jones a doctor at Jones Eye Clinic in Sioux City, Iowa, said in a news release. “I’ve found I can glide through any lens density with less surge, and the level of chamber stability I’ve experienced with Veritas gives me more confidence to take advantage of Venturi mode, the more powerful phaco setting.”

The Veritas Vision System has hybrid fluidics technology to minimize post-occlusion surges and protect intraocular structures with chamber stability. It also has occlusion sensing technology that automatically responds to occlusion to preserve a calm, stable chamber. Additional features include the company’s Whitestar technology combined with elliptical tip movement for ultra-smooth cutting and a dual pump system for access to both peristaltic and venturi pumps with on-demand transition between the two at every step.

“On top of providing a safe and stable procedure for cataract patients, we wanted to also offer a more efficient and comfortable phacoemulsification experience for surgeons, especially knowing most will perform multiple cataract surgeries every day,” Warren Foust, worldwide president of surgical at J&J Vision, said. “Our Veritas Vision System delivers high-performing, reliable tools for a smooth, effective cataract surgery for patients while also prioritizing surgeon well-being.”

J&J Vision won FDA 510(k) clearance and CE mark approval for the Veritas Vision System in April. It is available for ophthalmologists across the United States, Europe and select markets in the Asia Pacific region.
