How Innovative Trauma Care wants to change the way wounds are closed

May 6, 2016 By Brian Johnson

Innov

Innovative Trauma Care has found a new way to stop the bleeding.

The San Antonio, Texas-based company’s It Clamp hemorrhage control system is designed to create a temporary pool of blood under pressure that forms a stable clot until a wound is surgically repaired, capable of controlling bleeding in as little as 5 seconds, according to company executives.

In 2012 ITC raised $3.6 million in a Series A financing round to support of commercialization of the clamp and has been on the market since 2013.

On the 3rd anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombing last month, MassDevice.com publisher Brian Johnson spoke with CEO Joe Brennan about the It Clamp device, how it can help improve survival rates in trauma incidents and what challenges the company has faced in rolling out this new product.
