A chemical spill Monday at a Medtronic (NYSE:MDT) facility in Los Angeles led to the evacuation of 21 people and 3 hospitalizations, but no injuries other than "mild distress," the LA County fire department reported.
Although investigators have not discussed the cause of the chemical spill, Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Dept. confirmed that the spill involved 2 liters of hazardous material leading to an evacuation of the building’s 1st floor, Scott told Northbridge Patch.com.
A hazard team at the scene identified the substance as a polyimide rinse used to insulate electronics. The building in Los Angeles’ Northridge neighborhood is home to Medtronic’s diabetes business.
