Women’s health company Hologic Inc. (NSDQ:HOLX) opted to affirm the second option year of a $32 million military contract with the U.S. Dept. of Defense for its pap tests and supplies related to the kits.
Bedford, Mass.-based Hologic was the only bidder the contract, awarded in September 2010, which calls for it to supply the the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps with its ThinPrep test kits for human papilloma virus, according to the Defense Dept.
The second year is a bonus for Hologic which just released its third quarter earnings report touting record revenues of $205 million in the three months ended June 25, an 8 percent uptick from $189 million during the same period last year.
The burst in activity, driven by increased revenues in its breast health sector, which includes its 3D mammography system , was met with an increase in Hologic’s guidance for 2011 to a range of between $1.77 billion and $1.78 billion, which rose from the $1.76 billion to $1.77 billion expected prior.
