Robot-assisted surgery: Hansen Medical drums up $35m private placement

Hansen Medical said that it drummed up $35 million for its robot-assisted surgery devices from a syndicate of investors that includes its founder, a director and a pair of hedge funds.
Mountain View, Calif.-based Hansen said the funding round, which includes convertible stock and warrants worth another $52.5 million, could eventually reach the $87.5 million mark if the warrants are exercised. Read more

Aurora Spine said it raised about $3 million ($3.7 million Canadian) in a private placement broken down in 2 tranches.
The California-based spinal device maker plans to use the cash infusion for “working capital purposes.” Read more
Zimmer to float $7.7B debt to acquire Biomet

Zimmer said it agreed to float some $7.65 billion in senior notes to help finance its $13.35 billion buyout of cross-town orthopedics rival Biomet.
Warsaw, Ind.-based Zimmer said it expects the notes offering to close March 19, with the merger slated to go on the books by the end of the 1st quarter “or shortly thereafter.” Read more
Veniti raises $17m for Vici venous stent

Veniti said it nailed down a $17 million Series C financing it plans to use to advance testing and commercialization of its Vici venous stent system.
The St. Louis-based medical device company said the round involved both debt and equity funding. Previous investors Baird Capital, Tekla Healthcare and Tekla Life Science Investors led the equity portion, along with internal investors. Life Sciences Alternative Funding, a New York-based direct investment company, handled the senior secured debt financing, Veniti said. Read more
Cardiac Dimensions adds $15m for Carillon mitral valve implant

Cardiac Dimensions said it raised another $15.2 million for its Carillon mitral valve implant, taking the total of its most recent funding round to $43 million.
The round included new investors Life Sciences Partners and Aperture Venture Partners, plus existing backers Lumira Capital, M.H. Carnegie & Co., and Arboretum Ventures. Read more
