
Daniel Gregory, a co-founder of venture capital firm Greylock Partners, had died. He established the Cambridge, Mass.-based firm in 1965 and helped grow many of the of the global companies that make up the medical technology cluster in metro-Boston.
Gregory was 81 and succumbed to complications of Parkinson’s disease, which he had been living — and working — with for 16 years, according to The Boston Globe. He died Jan. 6
Greylock was an early investor in medical device and pharmaceutical companies like Haemonetics Corp. (funded 1974), (funded 1974) Stryker Corp. and Millipore Corp. (funded 1969 and acquired by Merck & Co. Inc. (NYSE:MRK) last July).
In addition to founding Greylock, Gregory also served for about a year as secretary of economic affairs under Mass. Gov. William Weld.
In addition to his brother, George, and sister Judith Bowes, Gregory is survived by his wife, Madeline Lee, their children Daniel Jr., Peter, Charlotte Surgenor and eight grandchildren, the Globe reported. A memorial service has already been held.
