What does San Francisco have that Boston doesn’t?
Well, in my 1st week in the Bay Area I’d say that San Francisco has food and fog unlike any I’ve encountered. And as I look over the Civic Center skyline, with the classically designed gray and gold dome of City Hall barely peeking through the mist, the city has a whimsical color that’s proving a stark visual culture-shock from Boston’s boundless brownstones.
But I’m not here to admire the scenery. I’ve headed west, pioneering MassDevice.com’s presence in the Golden State, home to device makers of all types and sizes. And I can’t wait to start meeting them.
Thoratec (NSDQ:THOR) makes its home in Pleasanton, Volcano’s (NSDQ:VOLC) headquartered in San Diego, Masimo‘s (NSDQ:MASI) in Irvine with Edwards Lifesciences (NYSE:EW) and Intuitive Surgical (NSDQ:ISRG) operates out of Sunnyvale, to name a few. I forsee some road trips in my near future.
Bi-coastal presence means that MassDevice.com operates on on both time-zones, and it means that we can forge new relationships with the companies we’ve been watching for the past 3 years.
Our West Coast Bureau is taking root in San Francisco, where I’ve been treated to crazy winds, crazier cab drivers and fogs thick enough to make you forget there’s a bay within walking distance.
I’ve only seen 7 San Francisco days and I’ve just finally moved up from sitting on cardboard boxes to a solid wood table, but I’m ready to start making the rounds. So give me a call, or send me an email, if you’re anywhere in the Bay Area or the surrounding med-tech hubs. I’m open to conversations, meet-ups or welcome baskets.
Nice to meet you, San Francisco!
