Getinge (STO:GETI-B) Getinge announced today that it is more than doubling its production capacity for intensive care unit ventilator machines amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Gothenburg, Sweden-based company said in a news release that it produced 10,000 ventilators in 2019 and is set to increase that number to 26,000 (160% increase) in 2020.
Getinge had already announced a bump up to 16,000 ventilators on March 17, but is adding another 10,000 to that total. The company intends to immediately ramp up its production at its facility in Solna, Sweden, and progress in close collaboration with its suppliers.
“We continue to ramp up to be able to respond to the increasing demand from our customers,” Getinge VP of critical care Elin Frostehav said in the release. “We work closely with our sub-contractors and the ramp-up is of course pending availability of supply parts.”
