GE HealthCare
(Nasdaq: GEHC)
announced today that it launched its Prostate Volume Assist (PVA) urology-based AI software feature.
The company designed the software feature to support clinicians in prostate imaging, biopsies and guiding treatment. It assists urologists by improving workflows and quickly capturing prostate volume. The added functionality with PVA helps determine calculations and measurements of the organ with an automated, one-click process.
Measuring prostate volume helps identify and plan treatment for several prostate diseases, including cancer, GE HealthCare said.
GE HealthCare plans to offer PVA on its bkActiv, bk3000/5000 and bkSpecto. Adding the software supports the company’s scalable portfolio of products for clinicians to manage treatment with greater confidence. The company says its visualization and guidance portfolio features advanced algorithms. These optimize image clarity to enhance detail image quality, while high-quality ultrasound guidance aids in urology procedures.
“Normally, clinicians determine prostate volume through a manual, repetitive process that requires measuring multiple dimensions and applying a mathematical formula,” said Fredrik Gran, head of innovation, surgical visualization and guidance, ultrasound at GE HealthCare. “Prostate Volume Assist uses artificial intelligence to automate this process with a single click, and yield results in less than two seconds. This technology provides an added level of support for urologists to improve efficiencies in the workflow and enable precision care.”
