GE Healthcare’s Oncura unit signed another distribution pact with medical device maker Theragenics Corp. (NYSE:TGX).
The agreement stipulates that Buford, Ga.-based Theragenics will market Oncura’s Iodine-125 brachytherapy product line.
The one-year, non-exclusive North American distribution deal includes options for additional one-year extensions, and gives Theragenics access to Oncura’s OncoSeed Rapid Strand, and Thin Seed prostate brachytherapy products, as well as BrachyStrand and BrachyMesh lung brachytherapy products, according to Oncura.
"This agreement is significant on a number of levels but first and foremost because it pairs up the two leading and most recognized brands in brachytherapy treatment and reinforces what the future of brachytherapy will look like," Theragenics CEO Christine Jacobs.
In July 2010, Oncura and Theragenics announced an agreement allowing Oncura to market Theragenics’ TheraSeed, a palladium-103 brand, in the U.S. and Canada.
Last month, Theragenics turned down a takeover proposal from Germany-based Eckert & Ziegler Strahlen- und Medizintechnik AG. Jacobs said their proposal "grossly" undervalued the company.
