GE HealthCare launches next-gen intraoperative ultrasound

GE HealthCare (Nasdaq: GEHC) announced that it launched its bkActiv S series, which it labeled as the next generation of intraoperative ultrasound.

The company now adds the bkActiv S series to its bkPortfolio family of active imaging systems. It designed these platforms to provide interventional guidance during urology, colorectal and pelvic floor procedures.

GE HealthCare said the bkActiv S empowers clinicians with precise ultrasound guidance. It enables clear vision of anatomical structures to support confident, real-time decision-making and better patient outcomes. The system also provides strong image quality with an intuitive, modern interface.

According to a news release, the platform includes Prostate Volume Assist (PVA), an AI-driven feature. It automates processes, streamlines workflows and elevates the user experience. The platform’s TruSense technology and customizable options allow users to personalize their preferred layout, too. A Smart Button transducer also provides the option to select from a variety of functionalities to elevate user control and flexibility.

GE HealthCare also added its Prism technology, which includes the TruFocus algorithm, within bkActiv S. This delivers auto-optimization of images for more detail and clarity. Meanwhile, Adaptive Noise Suppression reduces noise to enable deeper visualization without haziness.

“At GE HealthCare, our Surgical Visualization and Guidance team is committed to advancing technologies that make a significant difference in the surgical environment and meet the evolving needs of our customers,” said Matthijs Groot Wassink, GM, Surgical Innovations at GE HealthCare. “The bkActiv S system will help support clinicians across a wide range of procedures—including prostate diagnostics, biopsy, and treatment guidance—and reflects our focus on helping navigate increasingly complex surgical procedures with greater precision.”
