Fluke Biomedical subsidiary Unfors RaySafe said it granted an exclusive license for its RaySafe S-1 X-ray dose management system to Royal Philips (NYSE:PHG).
As a result of the deal, Unfors RaySafe will no longer market the X-ray tracking system, which is used to help limit patient and staff exposure to radiation. Unfors RaySafe was acquired by Fluke Biomedical in February, according to a press release.
"We are committed to providing innovative products and offerings to help avoid unnecessary risks. Moreover, we believe that only a holistic approach to radiation safety can effectively reduce unnecessary radiation exposure to patients and medical staff. As a consequence of this agreement Unfors RaySafe will discontinue to market and sell the RaySafe S1 solution," Unfors RaySafe CEO Magnus Kristoferson said in prepared remarks. "We will continue to develop innovative and ease of use solutions to provide a safer healthcare and within Radiology, specifically strengthen our focus on quality assurance solutions and real time dosimetry."
Unfors and Philips have a long-standing relationship in the dose management field. The duo inked a deal in November 2012 to co-develop "the next generation Philips DoseAware system," according to a press release issued at the time.
