
MASSDEVICE ON CALL — Nearly 3/4 of small businesses surveyed by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce said that they are less likely to hire new employees due to new burdens imposed by healthcare reform.
Of the more than 1,300 small business executives surveyed, 71% said they were less likely to hire and 24% said they would avoid hiring a new worker in order to stay below 50 employees, the point at which businesses must provide insurance for their workforce.
One in 4 businesses surveyed by the Chamber further reported that they weren’t sure what they needed to do in order to comply with the Affordable Care Act, The Hill reported.
JAMA lifts independent analysis rule
The Journal of the American Medical Assn. lifted a 2005 policy that required that industry-sponsored clinical trial data undergo statistical analysis by an independent reviewer prior to publication.
The rule, not common among major medical journals, had "been perceived by some in academia and industry as creating barriers to publication of important trial results," Journal editor-in-chief Dr. Howard Bauchner wrote in an editorial explaining the decision.
