The FDA warned patients of a California radiology practice about the possibility of faulty mammography procedures.
The federal watchdog agency issued a safety notification to individuals who underwent mammograms at Huntington Radiology in Huntington Park, Calif., after Sept. 9, 2008.
An American College of Radiology review of breast images produced at the facility found poor-quality mammograms that could have included unreliable results, according to the FDA.
The ACR subsequently stripped Huntington Radiology of its mammography license Sept. 9, 2010, preventing it from performing any more scans; the facility then sent letters to affected patients. The FDA wasn’t satisfied, however, and took up its own efforts to warn patients.
The agency recommends that any patients that underwent mammography procedures at the Huntington facility between Sept. 9, 2008, and the date its license was revoked meet with their doctors to discuss another breast exam, unless they’ve already received one at a different facility.
