FDA OKs Teleflex’s reusable access devices

Surgical device maker Teleflex (NYSE:TFX) won an FDA nod for its Weck reusable access devices, adding to the company’s product portfolio of laparoscopic instruments that help hospitals reduce waste.

The Weck reusable obturators are compatible with Weck Vista single-use cannulas and complement the company’s Weck Vista line of bladeless laparoscopic access ports, according to the press release.

“We are conscious of the patients’ needs and the challenges faced by surgeons in the operating room,” VP & general manager of surgical division Jay White said in prepared remarks. “By expanding our line of access to include these new reusable obturators, Teleflex continues to affirm its commitment to addressing these needs and providing effective solutions that help enhance patient safety.”

The Weck reusable obturator has a novel bladeless asymmetrical tip that dissects tissue while maintaining muscle integrity, the company said.

The new clearance is another win for Teleflex, which has notched a few new regulatory wins in recent weeks.

Earlier this month the FDA approved Teleflex’s Rusch EZ-Blocker disposable endobronchial blocker, a device designed to enable safer lung isolation.

Teleflex in September won FDA clearance for the latest in its line of Arrow devices, the FlexBlock continuous peripheral nerve block catheter.
