Trondheim, Norway-based Vitacon landed FDA clearance for its VitaScan LT USB bladder scanner, a non-invasive scanning system for real-time bladder volume measurement that can help patients avoid needing urethral catheters.
The VitaScan LT USB bladder scanner is designed for use in hospitals, clinics, and at home, and connects to laptops and tablets via USB when measuring the bladder volume, the company said.
Non-invasive bladder measurement is of particular importance given that catheter-associated urinary tract infection treatment is no longer reimbursed when it occurs in a hospital setting, Vitacon noted.
Besides the regulatory win, Vitacon landed a partnership with Salus, a Minneapolis-based lifescience advisory firm, to launch its marketing and distribution strategy in the U.S.
"Vitacon hit our market perfectly, responding to the need for speed, mobility, and cost-effectiveness," Salus CEO Spencer Lien said in prepared remarks. "Our research indicates a void in the marketplace and we are confident the respective channels to healthcare providers will be equally impressed."
Salus is responsible for pre-sales support, logistics, and customer service for a nationwide network of distributors in the U.S., according to the press release.
