Sotera Wireless won FDA clearance for its next-generation ViSi Mobile wireless patient monitoring system and the company is planning to launch nationwide sales immediately.
The ViSi system provides vital sign monitoring for ambulatory and bed-ridden patients, the data from which is wirelessly transmitted to clinicians.
"Patient safety is essential to hospitals and healthcare systems seeking to avoid the additional cost burden that can result from avoidable adverse events," Sotera CEO Tom Watlington said in prepared remarks. "Like a guardian angel, the ViSi Mobile System is on duty 24 hours monitoring vital signs with the aim of helping clinicians detect early signs of deterioration, allowing clinicians to intervene early to avoid unnecessary escalation of care, while also optimizing use of their time."
The San Diego, Calif.-based device maker earlier this year won clearance for its 1st generation ViSi Mobile System, which included the stand-alone portion of the system.
