AnthroTronix said it received FDA clearance for its DANA mobile assessment app, which is designed to help clinicians measure reaction time in assessing an individual’s medical or psychological state.
Silver Spring, Md.-based AnthroTronix’s DANA app for Android and iOS platform uses a battery of cognitive and psychological tests assess factors that may affect reaction time, including concussion, dementia, post-traumatic stress, depression, stress, fatigue, medication and some nutritional supplements.
"We are pleased that DANA has sought and received FDA clearance, leading the way for this type of game-changing technology," CEO Corinna Lathan said in prepared remarks. "In essence, measuring reaction time is like taking the temperature of the brain – like a ‘brain thermometer’ – and it is a vital part of the data that a health professional needs to evaluate their patient."
DANA was initially developed through funding from the U.S. Navy Bureau of Medicine & Surgery and a Rapid Innovation Fund award by the U.S. Army to help evaluate the medical status of deployed military service members. The system has been tested in Afghanistan.
The DANA program tests the reaction time, memory, and spatial processing of the patient. Although the app will likely be most useful to the military,an AnthroTronix spokesman told MobiHealthNews last year that the company believes it could also be an important tool in sports medicine.
