Explorer Surgical has raised nearly $2.6 million as it brings on medtech company customers looking to communicate with surgeons remotely.
Chicago-based Explorer Surgical in its Form D filed with the SEC today said the funding came from 30 investors.
The company on March 24 said it had brought on 10 new medical device customers in three months. The customers ranged from some of the largest medtech companies to startups including Prytime.
Explorer Surgical in late 2020 introduced an audio/video suite that it said would create “unprecedented” levels of communications to enable medtech sales reps to continue to communicate with surgeons in the OR during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
CEO Jennifer Fried discussed the company’s work during a sponsored interview heard on the DeviceTalks Weekly podcast last year. Fried told MassDevice today that company leadership decided it was time to raise a small tranche of capital to support Explorer’s Surgical continued growth. She said the company experienced six-times year-over-year revenue growth in 2020 versus 2019, as well as a record commercial quarter in Q1 2021.
“We plan to use the proceeds to grow the technology, marketing and customer success teams,” Fried said.
