Exactech Inc. (NSDQ:EXAC) bought several spinal reconstruction products from VertiFlex Inc.
The Gainsville, Fla.-based company develops biologic materials and restoration products for the hip, knee, shoulder and spine. The acquisition allows the company to expand its minimally invasive spinal surgery product offering.
“The minimally invasive VertiFlex products and technologies fit well with the current Exactech spine product portfolio, which includes a range of cervical and lumbar fusion product solutions," Exactech spine division general manager Bruce Thompson said in a prepared statement.
The acquisition included the Silverbolt percutaneous pedicle screw system, which allows doctors to implant a spinal rod into the pedicle screws in a "straightforward step" without additional incisions.
San Clemente, Calif.-based Vertiflex said the divestiture will allow the company to focus on its Superion Interspinous Spacer percutaneous spinal implant, which is currently undergoing clinical studies, according to the company’s website.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
