JaJuan Dawson, a former NFL player who later entered the medical device sales business, drowned after falling off a boat into a Texas lake, according to news reports.
Dawson, a wide receiver who played 2 years for the Cleveland Browns after being drafted out of Tulane University, played another year for the Houston Texans. After his career ended in 2003, he began working as a medical device sales rep, according to his LinkedIn page, eventually working his way up to senior sales rep position with Boston Scientific‘s (NYSE:BSX) peripheral interventions business.
The 37-year-old was boating with 3 children and 2 adults on Lavon Lake in north Texas when he fell overboard on the evening of July 12, according to NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth. Divers located his body the next night in about 47 feet of water, the TV station reported. Dawson, who was not wearing a life preserver, never surfaced after falling overboard, according to family members, who added that they didn’t know if he knew how to swim, according to the report.
Officials said they do not believe alcohol was a contributing factor.
