The Alameda, Calif.-based medical device company found that the FreeStyle test strips used with Insulet‘s (NSDQ:PODD) OmniPod glucose management system and its own FreeStyle and FreeStyle Flash glucose meters were reporting “erroneously low blood glucose results,” according to a press release.
Abbott is asking customers call its customer service line for replacement strips and to use alternative methods of measuring blood glucose in the meantime. Affected strips are to be disposed of in a normal fashion.
It’s not the 1st time the issue has raised its head for Abbott. In 2010, Abbott pulled 359 million test strips off the market in the U.S. and Puerto Rico after discovering a similar problem.
