Dexcom Inc. (NSDQ:DXCM) said yesterday it launched full support for Apple‘s (NSDQ:AAPL) Apple Watch for its G5 mobile continuous glucose monitor
The updated app will allow users to monitor their glucose data using the smartwatch, as well as viewing readings and trends and receiving notifications and alerts through the watch, which syncs to the app on the user’s iPhone.
The San Diego-based company said it launched a new feature which allows users to check their CGM information without needing to unlock or open the phone through the notifications panel.
“The Dexcom G5 Mobile interface with Apple Watch and the new Today view widget allows us to continue to enhance options and product offerings that include even more useful features for people with diabetes. These features were driven by feedback from G5 Mobile users, and showcase our commitment to continuously improve the user experience, making CGM more flexible than ever before for people with diabetes to manage their condition,” Dexcom CEO Kevin Sayer said in prepared remarks.
The Dexcom G5 is designed to use a smartphone as the primary display and can send the data to up to 5 follower devices. The user and followers can remotely monitor the glucose information, set alarms and receive notifications based on the data.
In September, Dexcom said it won CE Mark approval in the European Union for its G5 continuous glucose monitor, and commenced with the commercial launch weeks after.
Dexcom won pre-market approval from the FDA for the G5 device a month earlier in August last year, touting it as the 1st approved CGM system to send data directly to smartphones without a separate receiver.
