Covidien (NYSE:COV) launched its Microstream MicroPod respiratory monitoring module in the U.S, which measures carbon dioxide levels to determine changes that can lead to breathing problems.
The product is integrated with other patient monitoring systems already on the market for Covidien’s Original Equiptment Manufacturer partners.
The Mansfield, Mass.-based medical device company touted the device’s ‘plug-and-play’ configuration to share data between devices as a cost-saver for hospitals.
"The MicroPod module is a significant development for Covidien, but more importantly, for our partners, the hospitals they support, and patients who can benefit from our capnography solutions," said Matthew Anderson, VP of respiratory and monitoring division, in prepared remarks. "This technology will greatly expand access and use of a reliable patient monitoring technology available today. We believe the MicroPod module will ultimately contribute to greater patient safety in hospitals throughout the world."
