Clinical Data Inc. agreed to sell its Cogenics division to Beckman Coulter Inc. for about $17 million.
The Newton-based genomics firm said the deal is part of its strategy to divest non-core businesses and focus on targeted therapeutics and biomarker development.
The Cogenics business provides outsourced genomics services. It will be integrated into Orange County, Calif.-based Beckman Coulter’s Agencourt Biosciences genomics services business.
Clinical Data will get about $15.4 million when the deal closes and get to keep roughly $2 million in cash from Cogenics just before the sale.
