Negative rating slashes 10% from Intuitive Surgical | Wall Street Beat
A research report blasting Intuitive Surgical (NSDQ:ISRG) spooked investors on Wall Street yesterday and today, prompting a selloff that’s shaved some 11% from the medical device company’s share price.
Zimmer Spine launches urgent global recall
Medical device giant Zimmer Holdings (NYSE:ZMH) launched an urgent worldwide recall of its PEEK Ardis Inserter instruments after receiving reports that they may fracture Ardis Interbody Spacers during spinal surgery.
There are about 315 units to recall, according to a press release, and no adverse events associated with the fractured devices have yet been reported.
InVivo seeks FDA humanitarian use exemption for its spinal scaffold
InVivo Therapeutics (OTC:NVIV) is seeking FDA approval for a humanitarian use device designation for its biopolymer scaffolding product in treatment of traumatic spinal cord injuries.
The Cambridge, Mass.-based firm expects to begin a clinical trial of the scaffolding in acute spinal cord injuries early next year.

Judge nixes Orthofix, DoJ deal for 2nd time
A federal judge spiked a settlement deal between Orthofix (NSDQ:OFIX) and the U.S. Justice Dept. for the 2nd, time, saying the agreement isn’t in the public’s best interest.
Judge William Young of the U.S. District Court for Massachusetts 1st nixed the deal back in September because it didn’t then give him enough leeway to impose further penalties.
DePuy Synthes Spine taps Reinhardt as new president
Johnson & Johnson‘s (NYSE:JNJ) DePuy Synthes Spine subsidiary officially tapped Max Reinhardt to be its new president, after the sudden departure of Namal Nawana earlier this month.
Reinhardt has been with the Raynham, Mass.-based medical device company since 2002, according to a press release.
Cerapedics raises $19M in Series C round
Cerapedics said it closed a Series C equity round worth $19 million, led by new investors MedImmune Ventures and CVF LLC, an affiliate of Henry Crown & Co.
Existing backers OrbiMed Advisors and NGN Capital also participated, according to a press release.
U.S. robot surgery market gets a new player with FDA nod for Blue Belt Technologies
The U.S. robot-assisted surgery space added a new player this week with FDA clearance for Blue Belt Technologies’ NavioPFS orthopedic surgery system.
The Pittsburgh, Pa.-based device maker won clearance with indication for partial knee replacement, a procedure generally performed using manual instruments, the company noted.
