Children’s Hospital Boston inked a deal with CompuCyte that will see the Westwood laser cytometry equipment maker provide devices and services to researchers affiliated with Harvard Medical School.
CompuCyte will provide its laser scanning cytometry instruments and technical support and quantitative imaging cytometry and analysis services to researchers at the Longwood medical campus in Brookline.
Out of the frying pan and into … the skillet?
That’s about the size of it for Boston Scientific Corp., which saw its bond rating raised from negative to stable by Moody’s Investors Service. It’s good news, but there’s still a ways to go.
Moody’s upgraded the Natick-based medical device giant’s U.S. public bond rating March 10 from “Ba2” to “Ba1” and its liquidity rating from “SGL-3” to “SGL-2”, while affirming its corporate credit rating at “Ba1.”
Looking to push the company’s stock a little higher, Bruker Corp. chairman and CEO Frank Laukien upped his stake in the Billerica-based laboratory equipment maker between March 5 and March 10, according to a regulatory filing.
Laukien‘s position in Bruker rose to roughly 23 percent — or about 38.2 million shares worth nearly $200 million.
A prominent New York City ear, nose and throat surgeon — and, perhaps not coincidentally, the inventor of a laser treatment for bad breath — picked up a 7 percent stake inWayland-based Candela Corp., which makes cosmetic laser treatment equipment.
Yosef Krespi, chairman of the ENT department at St. Luke’s and Roosevelt Hospitals in New York, bought 1.6 million shares in Candela Feb. 27, according to a filing with the federal Securities and Exchange Commission.
Based on the closing price of Candela shares that day, that means Krespi spent about $560,000 to buy into the company.
Life science firms looking to still exist in a decade must undergo major transformations, according to a survey by the Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu consulting company.
The online survey of 360 senior executives from life sciences companies with at least $15 billion in revenue indicates that price pressure, expiring patents, high R&D costs and, for some unlucky companies, plunging stock values are forcing life science players to reevaluate their business models.
NASDAQ officials warned Exact Sciences Corp. to shape up or face a possible delisting from the exchange.
The Marlborough-based cancer gene testing firm failed to meet the exchange’s $35 million market capitalization minimum for 10 consecutive trading days. Market capitalization is the number of shares outstanding multiplied by the share price.
The company has until June 4 to right the ship or its common stock will be delisted from NASDAQ’s Capital Market.

Palomar Medical Technologies Inc. plans to pull the curtain back on four new skin treatment devices at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology tomorrow.
The Burlington cosmetic laser treatment firm’s new products — the XD Optic non-ablative laser, Groove Optic ablative laser, LuxPowR pulsed-light handpiece and Aspire SlimLipo body-sculpting laser — are slated to debut at the academy’s 67th annual meeting in San Francisco.
The University of Massachusetts-Lowell is spiking its plan to build a $90 million science center after the state agency charged with raising the cash to fund the buildout said it can’t get any cash out of the credit market.
The Emerging Technology & Innovation Center, which the school billed as a research Mecca for the hottest biotech trends, needed $35 million in tax-exempt loans to break ground later this spring.
But the school’s building authority told officials it couldn’t raise the money on the bond market due to the credit freeze.
