Officials at Candela Corp. said the company has received regulatory approval from the Brazilian National Health Surveillance Agency to market and sell its Alexa TriVantage Laser system in the South American country.
The Alexa is primarily indicated for use in removing tattoos and correcting pigmented lesions, according to the product literature on the company’s web site.
Candela posted sales of nearly $30 million in its last quarterly earnings report, down 23 percent from the same period last year.
However, unlike some of its competitors in the cosmetic laser space, Candela has not jumped into the over-the-counter market, choosing to focus instead on the dermatologist market.
