Boston Scientific ponies up $63m for Xlumena

Boston Scientific today said it agreed to pay $62.5 million up front for Xlumena and its Axios line of biliary devices, putting at least another $12.5 million on the table in potential milestones.
Mountain View, Calif.-based Xlumena makes the Axios and Hot Axios stenting systems, which won CE Mark approval in the European Union for transgastric or transduodenal endoscopic drainage of pancreatic pseudocysts or the biliary tract, Boston Scientific said. Read more
Uroplasty, Vision-Sciences merge as Cogentix

Uroplasty and Vision-Sciences yesterday closed their merger as expected, in the process re-branding as Cogentix Medical.
Shares of the new entity, which hit the market today, were down 8.0% to $1.61 from their $1.85-per-share open in mid-day activity. Read more
Medtronic buys Dutch diabetes clinic

Medtronic said today that it made its 1st foray into integrated care for diabetics, acquiring a Dutch diabetes clinic and research center called Diabeter for an undisclosed amount.
Diabeter provides care for more than 1,500 children and young adults with Type I diabetes, using technologies developed at the clinic to help patients manage their disease. Medtronic said internal data show that the Diabeter approach allows patients to maintain their blood glucose levels at near-normal levels, an important factor in reducing the long-term complications (and costs) of the disease. Integra LifeSciences readies SeaSpine spinout

Integra LifeSciences is gearing up for the spinout of its spinal implant business, SeaSpine, which is slated for the 2nd half of 2015.
Plainsboro, N.J.-based Integra said yesterday that it filed the initial registration form for the spinout with the SEC, detailing its expectations for the deal. Read more
Cogentix shifts Mass. manufacturing plant

Cogentix Medical said it plans to uproot a Massachusetts manufacturing facility and move it from Natick to nearby Westborough.
The Minnetonka, Minn.-based device company, newly re-branded after the merger of Vision-Sciences and Uroplasty, said it signed a 10½-year lease on a new, 24,400-square-foot facility in Westborough for its EndoSheath manufacturing operation. EndoSheath is a sterile, disposable protective barrier designed to work with its flexible endoscopes. Read more
