Bruker Daltonics is expanding its partnership with an Indian distribution company to supply life sciences firms and schools throughout the Asian subcontinent with mass spectrometry instruments.
The new joint venture, Bruker LabMate plc, builds on a seven-year partnership between Bruker and LabMate Asia, a Madras-based service firm that launched in 1989 to represent manufacturers in India. Officials said Bruker will own a majority stake in the new company but did disclose specific financial terms of the deal.
The companies announced the joint venture late last week during the opening of the Bruker Indian Institute of Science Mass Spectrometry facility in Bangalore. LabMate also operates technical and customer service offices in Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai.
Spectrometers measure the mass or weight of individual molecules, providing detailed information on the identity, quantity and primary structure of various substances. Company-wide, Billerica-based Bruker Corp. generated about 11 percent of its $1.1 billion in total revenues in Asia last year.
