Medumo: Boosting patient engagement
The 1st group to present their concept was Medumo. Dr. Omar Badri, a co-founder of the company, described their work as an “automated patient engagement platform.”
Medumo was founded by a group of physicians in the hopes of addressing a problem that they were repeatedly faced with in their own practices.
“We found ourselves increasingly frustrated by the lack of instructions and guidance that patients were getting before they were undergoing procedures,” Badri said. “Our goal was to develop an efficient, effective and cost-affordable technology solution that would allow providers to automatically touch base with their patients and instruct them to know what they need to do.”
Badri focused his presentation on colonoscopies – a procedure that depends on the patient preparing ahead of time. He argued that technology that could improve patient preparation could save lives and money for providers.
Medumo gives providers customizable automated messages to send to users via text or email to instruct patients and check in with them before procedures. Badri said that depending on how patients respond to simple questions like, “How is your preparation going today?” could allow providers to identify which patients are at high-risk for canceling their appointments or not being adequately prepared for their procedure.
