Boston Scientific (NYSE:BSX) today announced it appointed Kathryn Unger as VP of environmental, social and governance (ESG).
In this role, Unger will lead the company’s global ESG council that comprises subject matter experts from across the company to provide updates to the Marlborough, Massachusetts-based company’s board of directors. Boston Scientific leader set up the initiative to create shared accountability for ESG progress.
“ESG is an important part of our enterprise strategy, and we have been steadily increasing our focus on improving our practices, reporting strategies and organizational talent,” said Meghan Scanlon, SVP and president of urology and pelvic health and executive sponsor for ESG at the company. “The breadth and depth of Kathryn’s experiences and expertise equip her to lead our global organization in the next phase of our ESG evolution.”
Advancing Boston Scientific’s environmental, social and governance initiatives
Boston Scientific employs more than 41,000 people across 115 countries. They all contribute to company initiatives meant to address inequity, economic disparity, climate change and environmental protection.

Prior to joining Boston Scientific, Unger held numerous global leadership roles at Cargill and was most recently the CP of North America Government Relations. Prior to Cargill, she worked for Cummins and led the company’s Rail and Defense engine business, as well as other business development and program management. Unger is bilingual in English and Spanish and has also been a teacher in the U.S. and in Colombia.
