The suspect in the shooting death of a Boston Scientific (NYSE:BSX) executive last month is still at large and now suspected of robbing a bank to fund his getaway, according to news reports.
Lyle “Ty” Hoffman was charged last week with killing Kelly Phillips, a vice president and attorney for Boston Scientific and Hoffman’s former lover, at an Arden Hills, Minn., gas station August 11. Witnesses told police the pair appeared to argue before Hoffman allegedly shot Phillips 3 times and then ran over his legs as he sped away, according to the reports.
Although a $25,000 reward was offered for information on Hoffman’s whereabouts after the killing, he has evaded capture despite several sightings being reported to police. Now investigators believe Hoffman held up a bank in Blaine, Minn., on August 31, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported, using some of the cash to take a bus to a casino where he was spotted, according to WCCO. “We’re going to continue looking for this person until we find him. We have a number of investigative avenues and we’ve had some very public searches, but that’s certainly not the limit of what we’re doing,” Ramsey County Inspector Rob Allen told Law360.
Police believe someone may have helped hide Hoffman, who hasn’t used his cell phone or credit cards since going on the lam, WCCO reported.
Phillips was set to be married August 30; instead, friends and family held a memorial for him that day, according to the Star Tribune.
