Court halves Biolase board, marketing VP under fire

Biolase continues to swat at challenges to its leadership, after a Delaware state judge cut the board of directors and a former employer took a few shots at the dental device maker’s sales & marketing head.

Biolase is enmeshed in a proxy war with activist investor Oracle Partners, which owns a 16.4% stake. Biolase said today that a Delaware court constrained its board of directors to 4 members on a “status quo” basis, pending the outcome of an Oracle lawsuit filed earlier this month. Biolase’s board was originally set at 6 seats; the dispute erupted when Oracle contested CEO Federico Pignatelli’s attempt to revoke the resignations of 2 long-time directors. Read more

DJO Global taps ex-Life Technologies exec for CFO role

DJO Global said it hired a new CFO, Susan Crawford, formerly of Life Technologies.

Crawford replaces Vickie Capps, who left DJO late last year "to pursue other business opportunities," the company said at the time. Read more

LifeScience Alley looks within as president & CEO Wahlstrom announces retirement

LifeScience Alley president & CEO Dale Wahlstrom is stepping down from his post after 10 years, making way for organization insider Shaye Mandle.

Wahlstrom steered LSA through a third of its history, beginning with his 2004 founding of the BioBusiness Alliance of Minnesota. He became joint president after aligning BBAM with LSA in 2010. The former Medtronic executive is still on the boards of several industry and academic institutions, according to a press release. Read more

NinePoint Medical lands $34M for high-res organ imaging

Massachusetts-based NinePoint Medical Imaging closed a $34 million Series B funding round, the company announced today.

NinePoint plans to use the funds to support ongoing U.S. commercial efforts for its NvisionVLE system, which provides high-res, endoscopic imaging of organs and tissues. The system can provide cross-sectional, volumetric views of organs, including tissues below the surface, the company said. Read more

Co-founder's son takes over Imaging Dx Systems following SEC settlement with wife

Embattled Imaging Diagnostic Systems Inc. closed the books on an SEC investigation with the resignations of CEO Linda Grable and CFO and executive vice president Allan Schwartz, the company announced today.

Linda Grable, wife of company co-founder Richard Grable, was on the board of directors since the company’s inception until April 2004. She also held the corner office from August 2001 until April 2004, according to SEC filings. She retains 51% of the company’s common stock, according to a July 2013 report. Read more
