Eric Bouvier took over the corner office at BG Medicine (NSDQ:BGMD) yesterday as president & CEO of the Waltham, Mass.-based diagnostics developer.
Prior to joining BG, Bouvier, 51, headed the Immunoassay business at global diagnostics company BioMérieux. He also held the role of president & CEO of BioMérieux’s U.S. subsidiary bioMerieux Inc.
"BG Medicine is an emerging leader in the discovery and development of high-value diagnostic tests based on its powerful and proprietary platforms," Bouvier said in prepared remarks. "We will now build on the company’s early successes to rapidly become a full-fledged commercial company."
Bouvier is taking over for Dr. Pieter Muntendam, who led the company for the last 6 years.
Muntendam will stay on with BG Medicine as its executive vice president and chief medical officer.
BG Medicine took itself public last year, 3 years after first announcing (then scuttling) its first initial public offering. The diagnostics developer has inked pacts with industry big wigs Boston Scientific Corp. (NYSE:BSX), Abbott Laboratories (NYSE:ABT), Siemens (NYSE:SI), Alere (NYSE:ALR) and BioMérieux (EPA:BIM) to develop its galectin-3 heart attack mortality test.
