MASSDEVICE ON CALL — Workers displaced by Haemonetics’ (NYSE:HAE) shift overseas will get a little extra relief after federal labor regulators awarded Massachusetts $1 million for retraining services.
More than 320 Haemonetics employees are slated to lose their jobs after the company announced earlier this year that it would move its equipment manufacturing from its Braintree, Mass., headquarters to a contract facility in Mexico.
The outsourcing was associated with last year’s $550 million acquisition of Pall Corp. (NYSE:PLL), which has facilities in California, Mexico, Italy and Puerto Rico.
U.S. Secretary of Labor Thomas Perez pledged this week to help Haemonetics workers with a "full array of re-employment services," the Patriot Ledger reported.
