ATS Medical Inc. (NSDQ:ATSI) won a nod north of the border for its Simulus rings to repair defective heart valves.
The Minneapolis-based medical device maker said Health Canada, the Canadian equivalent of the Food & Drug Administration, cleared its mitral and tricuspid valve repair rings for sale in that country.
The annuloplasty devices are flexible, semi-rigid and adjustable rings that provide an alternative to outright replacement of of defective cardiac valves, according to a press release. ATS touts the devices as being unique in their ability to support the repaired valves by adapting to the heart’s natural movements as it beats.
The company also inked a Canadian distribution deal with Canadian Hospital Specialties Ltd., which formed a new cardiac surgery division and three sales reps for ATS products, according to the press release.
