Amedica Corp. bought out U.S. Spine Inc. for an undisclosed amount.
The Salt Lake City-based spinal and orthopedic implant maker said the "pure play acquisition" expands its spinal device offerings to cover "all spinal surgery indications," including several minimally invasive procedures.
Boca Raton, Fla.-based U.S. Spine created unique technologies for open, MIS, allograft and deformity correction procedures, according to Amedica.
Amedica‘s spinal implants are based on silicon nitride ceramics, which the company says resists wear and allows bone in-growth.
"As a result of this transaction, Amedica has doubled its distribution network and sales and marketing management and enhanced its international presence,” Amedica CEO Ben Shappley said in prepared remarks.
